Uttarakhand: Pawan Hans Launches Helicopter Flight

Government helicopter company Pawan Hans will now ferry ordinary citizens at much cheaper rates. The announcement was made by Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday. Puri said that Pawan Hans helicopter will fly on the Dehradun-New Tehri-Srinagar-Gauchar route in Uttarakhand. He said that this service is being started under the UDAN scheme to increase domestic connectivity.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that under this service, two Pawan Hans helicopters will be added on six new routes. The route is extremely important for the people of Uttarakhand and its rent is worth bearing. Under this scheme, Pawan Hans’ choppers will fly three days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that a similar service will also be started for Haldwani-Almora-Dharchula.

The UDAN scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016. Its aim was to promote regional connectivity. Under the scheme, air travel is also a bit cheaper but private airlines have not shown any interest in it and so far this plan has not been carried out as expected.

Before Uttarakhand, Pawan Hans helicopter service was started in Himachal Pradesh. It is believed that under the UDAN scheme, helicopter service will be started for Assam, Manipur, and other states as well.
