West Bengal Extends Biweekly Lockdown Till 31 Augu

To prevent the novel coronavirus spreading, the West Bengal government has extended the lockdown in the state till 31 August. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the biweekly lockdown will continue till August 31. CM Mamata Banerjee also said that no lockdown will be imposed in the state on the occasion of Bakrid on 1 August.

Earlier, the state government had decided to impose lockdown two days a week, which will remain in force till July 29. The state government has already canceled all flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Nagpur, and Ahmedabad to West Bengal till 31 July. No decision has yet been taken on resuming flights by the state government.

At the same time, all the trains to and fro West Bengal which were to be started from July 29 in the state were canceled. Apart from these, all government and private offices, commercial establishments, public and private transport will be closed on July 29 due to two days of complete lockdown. Court work, agriculture-related work, tea garden work, intra-state and inter-state supply, and home delivery will be allowed.

60,830 COVID-19 cases have been reported in West Bengal so far. Of these, 39,917 patients have been cured and 1,411 patients have died.
