Jharkhand Mob Lynching
The BJP-ruled state of Jharkhand is notorious for mob-lynching, even as CM Raghubar Das is trying and failing to improve the law and order situation in the state. In the latest incident of mob-lynching, a group of people in the Khoonti district beat a tribal to death, suspecting him of engaging in cow slaughter. In the same incident, two people were left severely wounded.

Police said that at 10 am on September 22, villagers started attacking three people in Jaltanda Suari village of Khoonti district when they got to know that a cow was being slaughtered near the river. As soon as the villagers gathered and reached the river bank, they saw some people slaughtering a cow. At this, the angry mob got hold of three people and started beating them mercilessly.

Out of the three people, one died during treatment, while two suffered serious injuries. The name of the deceased man is Philip Horo, while the injured are named Kalantus Barla and Faggu Kachhap.

The police got into action and on reaching the scene of crime, took the three injured into custodial protection. Since the three men were in serious medical condition, they were sent to Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences. However, one of the injured died while undergoing treatment.

Police has arrested about six people in connection with this case. Among them are some Bajrang Dal members. Later, about 150 people surrounded the police station in a bid to get the arrested persons released. However, they were sent back by the police. Meanwhile, the police is questioning those in its custody about the incident. The situation remains tense in Khoonti area.

In the past two months, several incidents of mob violence have been reported from various parts of Jharkhand. From 2017 till date, 18 people have died in incidents of mob lynching. Out of these, 11 belonged to the minority community. Despite speedy trials in these incidents, there have been convictions in only two cases.
