15 Indian-Origin Politicians Elected In UK Parliament
Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative Party has registered a thumping win in UK elections. A record 15 Indian-origin politicians have entered the UK's House of Commons.
Among the other winners are Alok Sharma, Shailesh Vara, Goan-origin Suella Braverman, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Preet Kaur Gill and Virendra Sharma. Preet Kaur Gill becomes the first British Sikh female MP who won from Edgbaston, Birmingham. Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi becomes the first Sikh MP from south-east England representing the Labour Party. The former UK Home Secretary Priti Patel is likely to remain in Johnson's top team in the new Cabinet. Prime Minister Johnson’s emphatic victory has set the UK on course for an exit from the European Union in January 2020.
