Incidents of mob-lynching in the country are showing no signs of stopping. The latest case is from the Fuleswari region of Putimari in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district. On Thursday, two people were beaten to death on suspicion of cattle theft here. The names of the deceased are Prakash Das and Babla Mitra and both belong to the Mathabhanga area.

Taking action after the incident, police have arrested 12 people who were part of the mob. According to information coming in, the two people were going somewhere with the cow. They were stopped near Fuleswari and questioned by some people. During questioning, people blamed the duo for cattle theft and started beating them up.

After getting information about the incident, police reached the scene of crime, rescued the duo from the clutches of the mob and took them to the hospital, where doctors declared the duo dead. The incident is now being probed.

Incidents of mob lynching have seen a huge increase in the last few years. While some states have made strict laws on mob lynching, other states are preparing to do so. The Supreme Court has already recommended that strict laws be made to deal with such cases.
