363 Inmates, 102 Jail Staff Test COVID-19 Positive
Maharashtra has been the worst-hit state by the Coronavirus pandemic, where over 1.74 lakh cases have been reported while deaths have crossed 8,000.

Coronavirus infections have also spread to a high level in jails across Maharashtra.


According to the latest figures of the Maharashtra Prison Department, so far 363 prisoners and 102 jail staff have found to be Coronavirus positive.

Of the infected prisoners, 255 have been cured, while four prisoners have died so far.

Of the 102 jail personnel who have been found infected in jails across the state, 82 have been recovered, however, no deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported.

Out of the total cases of infected prisoners found in the state jails, about 50 percent of the cases have been reported only in Mumbai Central Jail.

So far, corona infection has been found in a total of 181 prisoners in Mumbai Central Jail, of which 151 have been cured so far, while not a single death has been reported so far. In Mumbai Central Jail, 39 out of 44 jail staff have also been cured.

While in Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai, a total of two prisoners died due to coronavirus after they couldn’t recover from Coronavirus.

A prisoner was infected in Yerwada Jail in Pune and his life was lost due to infection. Apart from this, a prisoner had died of Coronavirus infection in Dhule District Jail, the total number of infected people here was four, out of which three have been cured.

The worst condition is in Akola District Jail where a total of 69 prisoners and one prison employee has tested COVID-19 positive, but not a single patient has been cured here.

In Aurangabad District Jail, 29 prisoners have tested positive, of which 26 have been cured, while 25 jail personnel have been infected and 22 of them have been cured.

Apart from this, Solapur and Satara districts of Maharashtra have a hundred percent recovery rate. In Solapur District Jail, a total of 62 inmates, while a total of 10 inmates in Satara District Jail were found infected and all the inmates in these two jails have been completely recovered.
