8 UP Cops Out To Nab Dreaded Criminal Shot Dead In
Eight policemen, including a DSP and three sub-inspectors, were shot dead on Friday at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district during a raid to arrest a dreaded criminal. Several others were injured.

Additional Director General Law and Order, Prashant Kumar visited the spot of encounter with senior officers. According to him, seven people including a civilian were injured in the incident, one of whom is a local resident. Police weapons are also missing.


The eight policemen who died in the encounter after being fired upon by criminals were identified as Circle Officer Devendra Kumar Mishra, Station Officer Mahesh Yadav, Chowki Incharge Anup Kumar, Sub Inspector Nebulal, Constables Sultan Singh, Rahul, Jitendra and Bablu.

According to Uttar Pradesh DGP, HC Awasthi, the police team had gone to arrest a history-sheeter Vikas Dubey,  following a complaint of an attempt to murder against him.

To obstruct the police vehicles, JCBs were put up there. When the police arrived on the scene, the criminals opened fire. The assailants were at a height, giving them a deadly advantage .

The incident took place in Bikaru village of Kanpur, where the force is now deployed on a large scale. In addition to the Kanpur police, STF has been deployed to arrest History Sheeter Vikas Dubey. Police from neighbouring districts Kanpur and Kannauj have also been called. According to UP Police, there are about 60 serious crime cases registered against Vikas Dubey.

The shocking attack on the cops shows the brazenness with wchich criminals are operating in Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi Adityanath claims that law and order in the State has imporoved, but the ground reality appears to be contrary.
