AIIMS Doctor Attempts Suicide Over Alleged Harassm
A senior resident doctor of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has attempted suicide. The doctor has accused a faculty member of caste discrimination and sexual harassment.

At present, the resident doctor has been admitted to the AIIMS ICU.

Taking notice of this matter, the National Commission for Women has written a letter to Preeti Sudan, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Ministry. The Commission has asked for an immediate inquiry and sought a report on this matter.

The woman doctor is posted at AIIMS’ Centre for Dental Education and Research. She had complained to the AIIMS administration about the harassment she faced but tried to commit suicide after no action was taken. She consumed pills on Friday evening.

According to media reports, the woman doctor had met AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria around 10 days ago and complained about the faculty member.

After this, the Sexual Harassment Committee and the Caste Harassment Committee had begun an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) had written several letters to the AIIMS administration in this matter. The RDA alleges that when no action was taken despite many letters being written, the woman resident doctor had to take such an extreme step.

According to the RDA, the woman resident doctor had written three letters to the AIIMS Women’s Cell, the SC-ST Welfare Cell and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes within a month but no action was taken against the faculty member accused of harassment.
