An Organic Seeds Bank In Chhattisgarh To Help Need
An organic seed bank has been set up in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur to protect farmers from the fraud and loss caused in procuring seeds.

With the start of the seed bank, while on one hand farmers will not fall prey to cheating, on the other, vegetables, paddy and pulses can be saved from extinction.

Given the awareness related to health among people these days, organic farming is being encouraged. For this, governments and the administration are making all possible efforts.

Keeping this in mind, the seed bank has been started with the help of the agriculture department and the National Rural Livelihood Mission.

This bank has 64 different types of seeds, for which farmers will not have to run from pillar to post. Also, along with conservation of seeds which are becoming extinct, it will promote organic farming.

The unique feature of this seed bank is that farmers will not have to pay money to buy seeds from here. The only thing required to get seeds here will be the exchange of seeds. In this way, farmers will be able to engage in productive farming at low cost and by using local methods.

India is an agriculture-based country and agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy. Farming is done on around 51% of the total area of our country. India ranks second in the world in rice production.

The agriculture ministry is also laying stress on increasing the scope of organic farming. According to the agriculture ministry, across the country, the area under organic farming is 22.5 lakh hectare. Keeping this in view, the government has set a target of organic farming on 1.4 crore hectare area by 2025.
