Aurangabad: 16 Migrants Returning To Chhattisgarh
A goods train ran over migrant labourers sleeping on railway tracks in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad on Friday morning. Sixteen labourers, who had started out on foot for Chhattisgarh from Maharashtra, died in this accident.

According to the Railway Ministry, after spotting the labourers on the railway track, the driver tried to stop the train but eventually hit them. The accident took place between Badnapur and Karmad railway stations in the Parbhani-Manmad section.

The injured have been taken to the Civil Hospital in Aurangabad and an inquiry has been ordered.

According to media reports, after the accident, along with the labourers’ dead bodies, ‘rotis’ were also strewn on the track. They had brought along these ‘rotis’ for consumption during their journey back home.

The migrant labourers, tired from their foot journey, had slept on the rail tracks and none of them could recover on time to escape being hit by the train since they were still drowsy from sleep.

Railway Protection Force and Aurangabad Police teams reached the spot as soon as they received information about the incident.

According to Aurangabad Superintendent of Police Mokshada Patil, the accident took place at 5.15 a.m.

All the deceased used to work at a steel factory in Jalna and were enroute to Bhusawal on foot to board a Shramik Special train going to Madhya Pradesh.
