BJP replaces Manoj Tiwari, Aadesh Gupta new state
In a bid to revive electoral fortunes in the national capital, BJP President JP Nadda has removed North-east Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari from the post of Delhi state BJP President and handed over the command to Adesh Kumar Gupta. Mr Gupta is currently a councillor from East Patel Nagar and has been the Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The saffron party had earlier given reins of Delhi BJP to Manoj Tiwari, anticipating a known face from Purvanchal would help party to consolidate its vote-bank amongst Purvanchal population. However, this always remained a distant dream.
The Delhi State BJP under his leadership was crushed by ruling AAP in last Assembly elections. Apart from this, his constituency also witnessed one of the worst communal riots recently, wherein 53 people lost their lives. Since then, there was speculation about his removal from office.
The aim behind elevation of Adesh Gupta to the post of Delhi BJP President is to strengthen party's grip over business class and trading community. The party has handed over the command to Adesh Kumar Gupta at a time when the organizational structure of BJP in Delhi is in bad shape.
Apart from Delhi, there has been a change in leadership in Chhattisgarh and Manipur too. Former Union Minister Vishnu Dev has been given the command of Chhattisgarh and Professor Tikender Singh was appointed as Manipur BJP President.
