COVID-19: Biggest Single Day Spike In India, Cases
Even as the nationwide lockdown extension is to end on May 3, coronavirus cases show no signs of letting up.

The country recorded its biggest single-day spike of 1,993 new COVID-19 cases and 73 deaths, according to the Friday morning’s Health Ministry update. Total cases now stand at 35,043 with the death toll rising to 1,147


Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with over 10,000 cases and over 400 deaths.

Meanwhile, 76 of 3,000 pilgrims returning to Punjab from Gurdwara Hazur Sahib in Maharashtra’s Nanded have been found COVID-19 positive.

Apart from Maharashtra, the situation is getting worse in six Indian states. These include PM Modi's home state Gujarat, where cases count is at 4,305, followed by Delhi at 3,515, Madhya Pradesh at 2,660, Rajasthan at 2,584, Tamil Nadu at 2,323 and Uttar Pradesh at 2,203.
