With record 8,171 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours and 204 deaths, India cases inch closer to the grim milestone of 2-lakh mark and the death toll is at 5,598. According to Health Ministry data at 8 am on Tuesday, there are 97,581 active cases and 95,526 people have recovered.

Maharashtra cases cross 70,000 and remains the worst-hit with highest deaths, while Delhi became the third state to record over 20,000 cases.


At 2,362, the highest number of deaths in the country were reported in Maharashtra, where 70,013 cases have come to light and 30,108 people have recovered too. Tamil Nadu is the second worst-affected state with 23,495 cases, 184 deaths and 13,170 recoveries, followed by Gujarat.

In Gujarat, 1,063 people have died so far, while 10,780 people have been discharged and the total number of patients is 17,200.

Delhi has climbed to the third spot with 20,835 cases and 523 deaths, 8,746 patients have recovered.

In Madhya Pradesh, there have been 358 deaths. The total number of patients here is 8,283 and 5,003 patients have been discharged. 

In West Bengal, 325 people have lost their lives so far. While 2,306 people have recovered here, 5,772 people have contracted the coronavirus.

There have been 217 deaths in Uttar Pradesh. Over here, 8,075 cases have been reported and 4,843 patients have recovered.

In Rajasthan, 198 people have lost their lives so far. While 6,040 people have recovered here, 8,980 people have contracted the coronavirus.

In Telangana, 88 people have lost their lives so far. While 2,792 people have contracted the virus, 1,491 people have recovered.

In Andhra Pradesh, there have been 64 deaths. The total number of patients here is 3,783 and 2,378 patients have been discharged.

In Karnataka, 52 people have died, with 3,408 cases and 1,328 recoveries have been reported.

There have been 45 deaths in Punjab. While 2,000 people have recovered here, the total number of patients is 2,301.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 31 people have lost their lives so far. While 946 people have recovered, 2,601 people have contracted the illness.

Bihar COVID-19 deaths are at 24, recoveries at 1,900 and cases at 3,926.

Haryana has reported 21 deaths, 1,055 recoveries and 2,356 coronavirus cases.

In Kerala, there have been 10 deaths, 608 recoveries and 1,326 cases.

Odisha has registered 7 deaths, 1,245 recoveries and 2,104 cases.

Uttarakhand has reported 6 deaths, 222 recoveries and 958 cases.

There have been five deaths in Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh. Total cases stand at 659 in Jharkhand and 340 in Himachal whereas 296 in Jharkhand and 122 in Himachal have been discharged.

Four COVID-19 deaths have been registered in Assam and Chandigarh. While there are 1,390 cases in Assam and 294 in Chandigarh, recoveries stand at 277 in Assam and 199 in Chandigarh respectively.

Besides, Meghalaya and Chhattisgarh has reported one death each.

The coronavirus has hit 33 states and union territories across the country so far and the number of patients is increasing rapidly.
