With record 8,909 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours and 217 deaths, India cases have crossed the 2-lakh mark and the death toll is at 5,815. According to Health Ministry data at 8 am on Wednesday, there are 101,497 active cases and 100,302 people have recovered.

At 2,465, the highest number of deaths in the country were reported in Maharashtra, where 72,300 cases have come to light and 31,333 people have recovered too. Tamil Nadu is the second worst-affected state with 24,586 cases, 197 deaths and 13,706 recoveries, followed by Gujarat.


In Gujarat, 1,092 people have died so far, while 11,894 people have been discharged and the total number of patients is 17,617.

Delhi has climbed to the third spot with 22,132 cases and 556 deaths, 9,243 patients have recovered.

In Madhya Pradesh, there have been 364 deaths. The total number of patients here is 8,420 and 5,221 patients have been discharged. 

In West Bengal, 335 people have lost their lives so far. While 2,410 people have recovered here, 6,168 people have contracted the coronavirus.

There have been 222 deaths in Uttar Pradesh. Over here, 8,075 cases have been reported and 5,030 patients have recovered.

In Rajasthan, 203 people have lost their lives so far. While 6,435 people have recovered here, 9,373 people have contracted the coronavirus.

In Telangana, 92 people have lost their lives so far. While 2,891 people have contracted the virus, 1,526 people have recovered.

In Andhra Pradesh, there have been 64 deaths. The total number of patients here is 3,898 and 2,421 patients have been discharged.

In Karnataka, 52 people have died, with 3,796 cases and 1,403 recoveries have been reported.

There have been 46 deaths in Punjab. While 2,017 people have recovered here, the total number of patients is 2,342.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 33 people have lost their lives so far. While 953 people have recovered, 2,718 people have contracted the illness.

Bihar COVID-19 deaths are at 24, recoveries at 1,946 and cases at 4,155.

Haryana has reported 23 deaths, 1,069 recoveries and 2,652 coronavirus cases.

In Kerala, there have been 11 deaths, 627 recoveries and 1,412 cases.

Both Odisha and Uttarakhand have reported 7 deaths each. While Odisha has 1,325 recoveries and 2,245 cases, Uttarakhand has reported 252 recoveries and 1,043 cases.

There have been five deaths in Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. Total cases stand at 712 in Jharkhand, 345 in Himachal and 301 in Chandigarh whereas 320 in Jharkhand, 140 in Himachal and 214 in Chandigarh have been discharged.

Four COVID-19 deaths have been registered in Assam. While there are 1,513 cases in Assam, the recoveries stand at 324.

Besides, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Ladakh have reported one death each.

The coronavirus has hit 33 states and union territories across the country so far and the number of patients is increasing rapidly.
