Crimes Against Women Are On The Rise, Says NCRB Da
Women in various states of the country are asking the government to answer questions about their safety after the gangrape and murder of a woman veterinarian in Hyderabad. 

Despite all efforts by the government to stop crimes against women, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics reveal that the country is becoming more unsafe for women with each passing day. According to a recent NCRB report, there has been a sharp rise in crimes against women after 2015.


Protests are being held across the country after the rape and murder case in Hyderabad has come to light. Questions are being raised in various parts of the country about why the government is not taking strict action in cases of crimes against women.

Figures of crimes against women reveal that there has been a sharp rise in such crimes after 2015.

According to the NCRB report of 2017, a total of 50,07,044 crimes were registered in 2017. In the year 2015, 3,29,243 cases of crimes against women were registered. In 2016, 3,38,954 cases of crimes against women were registered and in 2017, 3,59,849 such cases were registered.

These figures reveal that crimes against women in the country are showing no signs of abating.

According to statistics gathered by NCRB, women are most unsafe in Uttar Pradesh, while they are safest in Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Nagaland.

In Uttar Pradesh, in 2015, a total of 35,908 crimes against women were registered. This figure increased to become 49,262 in 2016; in 2017, 56,011 such crimes were registered.

In Delhi, in 2015, 17,222 crimes against women were registered. In 2016, there was a slight decline in these figures but matters did not improve much.

Meanwhile, conditions are becoming dire for women in Madhya Pradesh (M.P.). According to statistics, crimes against women are constantly on the rise in M.P. In 2015, 24,231 cases and in 2016, 26,604 cases of crimes against women were registered. In 2017, 29,788 such cases were filed.

In Bihar too, cases of crimes against women are increasing. In 2015, 13,904 cases, in 2016, 13,400 cases and in 2017, 14,711 such cases were filed. In Maharashtra, the number of cases of crimes against women registered in 2015, 2016 and 2017 was 31,216, 31,388 and 31,979 respectively.

There has been no improvement in the cases of acid attacks on women in the NCRB report. The figures of attempts at acid attack and assault with intent to kill, along with cases of use of force against women are worrisome.
