DAY 44 : Anti-CAA Protest At Shaheen Bagh

Protests and strikes against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) are underway in various cities of the country. People hoisted the tricolor amid protests and strikes in several cities on the occasion of Republic Day on Sunday.

In Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, Rohith Vemula’s mother Radhika Vemula, veteran actress Saira Bano and the ‘Dadis’ (grandmothers) of Shaheen Bagh hoisted a 55-feet-high tricolour on Republic Day. Protests by women in Shaheen Bagh are ongoing and Monday is the 44th day of protests there.

Protests by women on the lines of Shaheen Bagh against the CAA, NRC and NPR are underway in several cities of the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Aligarh.

In Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, protesters hoisted the national flag at the Ghanta Ghar on the occasion of Republic Day.

On Sunday, people in large numbers - including women and children - protested against the CAA, NRC and NPR in Delhi’s Nizamuddin, Azad Market and other areas. 

Meanwhile, protests and strikes against the CAA and NRC are taking place in Mumbai too, where women in large numbers protested in the Madanpura area on Sunday. Apart from this, Muslim women are also protesting against the CAA and NRC in Mumbai’s Morland.

Protests and strikes continue in West Bengal as well, where a large number of people protested against the CAA and NRC in Howrah’s Pilkhana on Sunday.

Meanwhile, police in Hyderabad took Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad into custody before protests against the CAA on Sunday.
