Day 51 Of Anti-CAA Protest At Shaheen Bagh
Protests and strikes against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) have been underway in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh since the past 50 days.
Today is the 51st day of the protest at Shaheen Bagh.
Meanwhile, people in large numbers protested against the ongoing strike at Shaheen Bagh on Sunday. Amid this, they shouted ‘Empty Shaheen Bagh!’, ‘Jai Shri Ram!’ and raised the slogans which Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State for Finance, had repeated at a rally a few days ago. Protesters said that people at the sit-in protest have occupied the roads connecting Noida and Kalindi Kunj, due to which commuters are facing many difficulties. Despite several warnings, when the protesters did not stand down, the police took around 52 people into custody. However, the police released all of them after some time. Meanwhile, breaking his silence for the first time on the ongoing Shaheen Bagh protests, Amulya Patnaik, Delhi Police Commissioner, asked protesters to move away from the main road. It has been more than a month and protests in Shaheen Bagh are still going on. Protesters are staging sit-ins at the protest site and are not ready to move.
