Defeating Janta Curfew's Purpose, People Gather On
At 5 p.m. on Sunday during the Janta Curfew, on the appeal of PM Modi, people banged metal plates and rang bells in an effort to encourage those workers who are toiling tirelessly to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

However, during the same time, hordes of people in several cities of the country stepped out of their homes in the same manner as they do on festive occasions.

Shocking videos have come to light from some cities, in which people can be seen swaying happily. In one particular video, some women were seen dancing on the lines of the Garba, with plates in their hands.

Meanwhile, one case of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit. During Janta Curfew, District Magistrate Vaibhav Srivastava and Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dikshit were seen blowing the conch shell and leading a crowd of people.

However, after facing sniggering on social media, Srivastava appealed to people to practise social distancing.

Amid this, PM Modi also posted a tweet which said, “Some people are still not taking the lockdown seriously. Kindly save yourself, save your family, follow instructions with seriousness. I request state governments to ensure that rules and laws are followed.”

Despite the lockdown, people in Ahmedabad’s Khadia area were celebrating on roads, after forming groups. FIRs have been filed against 40 people after the video went viral.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Ashish Bhatia said that people came out onto the streets despite Section 144 being imposed and so, this action has been taken.

Meanwhile, it is being said that disregarding the lockdown could lead to six months’ imprisonment and the imposition of a fine of Rs 1,000.
