The web of fake notes prevails across the country and the government has been unable to take any major steps to put an end to it.

Statistics from government reports clearly show this web, which has now spread to almost every part of the country. Investigations reveal that almost all corners of the country have made it to the list of places from where fake notes were impounded.

A look at figures from the 2018 report of the National Crime Records Bureau shows that in the year 2018, fake notes worth Rs 17,95,36,992 were confiscated in the country.

At the top of the list is capital Delhi, where fake notes worth Rs 3,63,22,950 were seized. On the second spot is Tamil Nadu, where counterfeit currency worth Rs 2,84,91,710 was confiscated. At third place is the state of West Bengal, where fake notes worth Rs 2,10,95,600 were impounded.

Meanwhile, in the year 2018, a total of Rs 10,95,52,000 worth of fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination (the largest currency in India) were confiscated, which is 61% of the total number of seized counterfeit currency.

It remains to be seen what essential steps the government will take in the coming days to stop the business of fake notes in the country.
