The bail plea of ​​noted human rights activist Gautam Navlakha has been rejected by the NIA special court and sent him to NIA custody till 22 July. He had filed a petition for default bail in the NIA court. Navlakha had said that he has been detained by the NIA for more than 90 days without any chargesheet, hence he is entitled to default bail under the law. But the NIA court rejected Navalakha's bail plea, saying that the house arrest and arrest period cannot be clubbed together as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

The NIA has made Gautam Navlakha an accused in the Bhima Koregaon violence case. He was arrested on August 1, 2018, by Pune Police regarding a violent incident on 1 January 2018 in Bhima Koregaon. Navlakha was accused by the police of making inflammatory statements at the event of the Elgar Parishad held in Pune on 31 December 2017.

At the same time, Varavara Rao, a famous poet and another accused in the Bhima Koregaon violence case, has been admitted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai after getting dizzy in jail. He also filed a petition in the Bombay High Court for bail and medical examination. He had told before the court that his health is deteriorating and there is a danger of COVID-19 infection. 80-year-old Varavara Rao has been in jail for the past two years.
