Farmers Demand ‘Unconditional’ Talks, Threaten To
Farmers’ protest against the Centre’s three farm laws at the Delhi-Haryana border continues for the fifth straight day on Monday. Meanwhile, the protesting farmers have refused to withdraw from the Singhu border and warned to block all five routes connecting Delhi.

Bhartiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait clearly said that the farmers will not move to Nirankari Ground, a private facility. Ramleela Maidan is the public place of protest. But the Centre has refused to give them a go-ahead citing the Coronavirus guidelines. Farmers have been opposing agricultural laws for the last three months but are not being heeded by the central government.

Farmers say that by deploying police forces in large numbers in the entire capital Delhi, an atmosphere of panic and fear is being created for the farmers and the people of Delhi. Farmers fear that if they reach Burari’s Nirankari Ground, saying ‘it can be converted into a jail’. The apprehension was sparked by a Delhi Police’s request that the stadiums be converted into temporary jails. But Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal rejected the proposal, saying that the protesters were Delhi’s ‘guests’.

Punjab Kisan Union President Ruldu Singh said that “protests happen at Ramlila Maidan, then why should we go to Burari?” He said that apart from the three agricultural laws, farmers also want the withdrawal of Electricity Amendment Bill 2020. If the central government does not withdraw the farm laws, then it will have to bring the minimum support price or the law of guarantee on MSP.

Meanwhile, farmers are camping at the Singhu (Delhi-Haryana border) and Delhi-Ghaziabad border in the cold winter even on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has shut the Singhu and Tikari border for traffic movement, while the leaders of farmers' organisations protesting at Delhi borders have warned to block all the entry points connecting to Delhi.
