Firing Reported At Jamia, 3rd Such Incident In Las
An incident of firing was reported from Gate Number 5 of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University around 12 p.m. on Sunday. No one has been injured in the firing. According to the Jamia Co-ordination Committee (JCC), two unknown assailants opened fire near the University gate and then escaped.

A statement issued by the JCC says that the attackers came on a red Scooty and one of them was wearing a red jacket.

Indignant at the firing, students surrounded the Jamia Nagar police station late on Sunday night. Students were adamant about their demand of arresting the shooters; they also raised slogans against the Delhi Police.

In response, ACP Jagdish Yadav said that all facts which come to light after checking the CCTV footage will also be included in the FIR and action will be action thereafter. Protesting students returned only after the complaint was registered. Police say that they are probing how the assailants arrived at the spot.

This is the third incident of firing during protests in Delhi in the last four days. On Saturday, a man had fired aerial shots in Shaheen Bagh. He had been arrested by the police personnel present there soon after. Two days earlier, on Thursday, an assailant had opened fire at a march being taken out by JMI students, in which one Jamia student had been injured.

Earlier, in light of the firing incident, the Election Commission (EC) removed Chinmoy Biswal from the post of DCP, South-East Delhi, on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for the EC said that “it is informed that Chinmoy Biswal, DCP, South-East Delhi, should be considered relieved from his current post with immediate effect and should report to the Union Home Ministry. In view of the current situation, the EC instructs that Kumar Gyanesh should take over charge from Chinmoy Biswal, IPS, as DCP, South-East Delhi immediately.”
