Flood Alert For Bihar With Rising River Water Levels

After UP’s Prayagraj and Benaras, now Bihar, too, is faced with a flood-like situation. Water levels have been constantly on the rise in the Ganga and other major rivers here.
The Disaster Management Department said that relief and rescue work has begun in the flood-affected regions of Buxar, Bhojpur, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Khagaria and Bhagalpur. Teams of the NDRF and SDRF have been deployed for relief and rescue work. Around 300 boats have been pressed into service to rescue people stranded in flood-affected areas.
In Buxar, the water level in the Ganga has been stable at 60.92 metres, while the red level is demarcated at 60.32 metres. Around 1,000 houses in low-lying areas have been submerged under water. Relief material is being sent to people in the affected areas. The administration has issued an alert over rising water levels in the Ganga. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that 16 lakh cusec water is being discharged from the Farakka Barrage in West Bengal. He said that in this context, he has spoken over phone to P.K.Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and expressed his concern over rising water levels in the Ganga and other rivers.
