On the occasion of Bhai Dooj, travel for women in DTC and cluster buses in Delhi has been made free from Tuesday. Also, 13,000 marshalls have been deployed in buses for safety.

Travel will be free for women travelling in DTC’s A.C. and non-A.C. buses and in cluster buses in Delhi-NCR.

As part of this scheme, women will be issued a Single Journey Free Travel Pass, which will be pink in colour. This pass will be given by the bus conductor. Taking the pass will be necessary each time, otherwise the journey will be considered as ‘without ticket’ and a fine can also be imposed. Women will also have the option of buying the ticket.

There are around 3,500 DTC buses and 1,500 cluster buses in Delhi. Each day, 31 lakh people travel in DTC buses and 12 lakh people travel in cluster buses. Out of the total 43 lakh commuters, around 33% are women commuters.
