Gunman Opens Fire On Anti-CAA Protesters Near Jamia, One Hurt
A man opened fire at the students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University, who were getting ready to take out a march against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) on Thursday.
A student, whose name is Shadaab Alam, was shot in the palm of his hand. He has been admitted to the Holy Family Hospital.
According to initial inquiries, the man who opened fire has been identified as Gopal, who was calling himself a ‘Ram Bhakt’. The Delhi Police has arrested him and begun interrogation. This incident is raising questions over the functioning of the Delhi Police. Accused Gopal kept raising slogans while brandishing his gun and then opened fire, right in front of Delhi Police personnel, but they remained mute spectators.
