Infosys Sacks Employee Detained Over ‘Spread-The-V
A software engineer who was employed with Infosys in Bengaluru has been detained by the Central Crime Branch on Friday for allegedly putting up a social media post encouraging people to “go out and spread” the novel coronavirus.

"The person who put this post, saying people should go out and sneeze and spread the virus, has been detained. His name is Mujeeb and he works in a software company. A case has been registered," said Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner (CCB, Bengaluru). However, the police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the post.

"Let's join hands, go out and sneeze with open mouth in public. Spread the virus," the man wrote.

After the post went viral, Infosys subsequently ordered an internal investigation and terminated his employment.

“The social media post by the employee is against Infosys’ code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly terminated the services of the employee,” said the company in a tweet.

The virus has infected over 800 people across the country and claimed 19 lives.
