Jharkhand’s Ghorabhanda
Every so often, news of students bearing hardships to get an education comes to the fore. Now, students of a government school in Jharkhand’s Ghorabhanda town are forced to sit with an umbrella in one hand and a book in other.

Reason? Because of leaking roofs. On rainy days, water from the roof keeps dripping for weeks. Though the school has seven classrooms only, most of them are in bad condition. Students have complained of cement plaster often dropping from the ceiling, besides broken windows and doors eaten up by termites. Add to this, the terrace is on the verge of collapse.

Kalpana, studying in class 7, said: “The roof is broken, so we bring our own umbrellas."

"We have to face a lot of trouble due to rain which hampers our study," another student said.

However, instead of fixing the roof, the authorities have forced the kids to hold umbrellas in class.

Rati Kant Pradhan, a teacher said, "We turn off the electricity to avoid unfortunate incidents. I request the government to look into the matter and solve it."

Around 200 children are studying in school, who have requested the Jharkhand government to shift them to a new building.

Most government schools are dilapidated, despite Infrastructure being the most basic requirement of a school.
