Karnataka Shocker: Bodies of COVID-19 Victims Thrown Into Pit in Bellary, State Government Under Fire

In a shocking video from Karnataka's Bellary, bodies of COVID-19 victims can be seen being wrapped in plastic and thrown into a pit. The video clearly shows how five people wearing PPE kit are taking out the bodies wrapped in plastic from the ambulance and throwing them in the pit. A total of eight bodies were inhumanly dumped into two pits. After the video went viral, the main opposition parties of Karnataka, Congress, and JDS have attacked the B.S. Yediyuruppa-led BJP government of Karnataka.

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivkumar lashed out at the Yediyurappa government. DK Shivakumar tweeted the video and said that throwing bodies of coronavirus patients in Bellary in the pit with such inhumanity is disturbing. ‘This shows how the government is handling the corona crisis. I appeal to the BJP government to take cognizance of this,’ he wrote.

The Janata Dal Secular party also tweeted from its official Twitter account and said - ‘By chance, if you or your family members die because of COVID-19, this is how the BJP Govt. in Karnataka throws away your body with many others into a single pit! This is the ‘well-planned COVID management’ that the Govt. talks about everyday in the media.’

Bellary Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul said on this entire matter that he himself has seen the video and found that the protocol had been followed properly, but the human aspect had been ignored and ordered an inquiry into the matter. After the incident grabbed eyeballs, the state Health Minister B Sriramulu has said that all the health workers who were involved in this incident have been suspended with immediate effect. He said that health workers should have followed the protocol.

On the other hand, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa also expressed surprise and regret over the incident and said that such treatment of corpses of corona victims by the health workers is inhuman and painful.
