All domestic and international passenger flights will remain suspended until May 3 after PM Modi announced that the country will remain in further lockdown to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a tweet that the government can consider lifting restrictions on domestic and international flights after May 3.


"All domestic and international scheduled airlines operation shall remain suspended till 11.59 pm of 3rd May 2020," the ministry tweeted.

Only cargo and emergency flights are permitted to operate during the lockdown.

This comes after the Indian Railways also extended the halt on train services till May 3.

In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, the government had suspended all flight operations from March 24 midnight.
