Madhya Pradesh Tops In Rape Cases, Nagaland Ranks
Rape incidents are on the rise in the country. Recently a female doctor in Hyderabad was burnt to life after being raped. In Unnao, a girl was set ablaze, suffering 90% burns, while she was en route to Rae Bareli to attend a court hearing in a rape case filed by her. The girl died on Friday at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.

Over 32,000 rape cases were registered across the country in 2017, with Madhya Pradesh reporting maximum number of such crimes and Nagaland the lowest number, according to the 2017 data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).


5,598 rape cases were registered in Madhya Pradesh. 4,669 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh, 3,319 in Rajasthan, 2,082 in Odisha and 2,048 in Assam.

The lowest number of cases were reported from Nagaland (10), preceded by 17 in Sikkim, 25 in Manipur, 41 in Mizoram and 71 in Arunachal Pradesh.

Congress spokesperson Sharmishtha Mukherjee told GoNews that there have been 86 incidents of rape in UP’s Unnao alone in the last eleven months. She further described the Yogi Raj of UP as Jungle Raj.

The NCRB report also noted UP, at the top, with over 55,000 cases relating to women harassment, followed by 31,979 cases of harassment in Maharashtra, 30,992 in West Bengal, 29,788 in Madhya Pradesh and 25,993 in Rajasthan.

On Saturday evening, thousands of people gathered at Mahatma Gandhi memorial in Delhi to protest over the failure of the Centre and state governments to stop the spiraling incidents of rape with each passing day.
