Maharashtra Polls: Congress, NCP Divide Seats Equally
The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra have finalised their seat-sharing arrangement for the assembly elections scheduled to be held next month.
On Monday, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said the two parties would contest 125 seats each, leaving 38 seats for the allies.
In the 2014 assembly polls, the two parties had contested separately, in which both had fared poorly. While the Congress had won 42 seats, the NCP had secured 41. The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena, however, did not join hands over seat-sharing issues. Recently, several important leaders of the Congress-NCP had quit the alliance and joined the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.
