Manmohan: Freezing DA Hike Unnecessary Hardship At
Former PM, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has hit out at the Centre’s decision to freeze the hike in Dearness Allowance for government employees, service personnel and pensioners, saying the move was imposing financial hardship on government employees and the armed forces and was unnecessary at this stage.

The Congress party has attacked the Central government on its decision to stop the Additional Dearness Allowance of Central government employees and pensioners.

After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, now former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has also raised questions on this decision of the Central government.

He has said that it is unnecessary to inflict a financial injury on government employees and military personnel under the present circumstances.

The Congress party has tweeted a video statement by Dr Manmohan Singh, in which he says that instead of providing them relief, the Modi government has hurt the interests of 1.1 crore Central government employees.

Dr Singh said that instead of reducing expenditure on projects such as Central Vista, implementing cuts in the Additional Dearness Allowance is insensitive and inhuman.

Prior to Dr Singh, several Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have declared the decision to deduct the Dearness Allowance as inhuman.

Meanwhile, economic experts argue that relief packages are announced to provide momentum to an embattled economy instead of deducting income already coming in. This will not benefit the economy at all, they said.
