Moradabad: Brass Traders & Workers Bear The Brunt
Famous around the world for its brass trade, workers in Moradabad are staring at a bleak future. Businesses are being shut down here in the name of pollution, due to which small and big traders are furious.

Thousands of traders gathered outside the Collector’s office in Moradabad to protest against this move. DM Rakesh Kumar said that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Moradabad has been in the ‘very poor’ category for the last one month.

People working in small units were worried that if their business is shut down, they will face a crisis of livelihood. Around three lakh people are involved in the brass trade in Moradabad; it leads to an annual turnover of Rs 35,000 crore.

Protestors say that they are being destroyed in the name of pollution. They say that there were kilns here earlier too and people used to work there but there was no problem of any kind to anybody.

Apart from Moradabad, traders from Panipat and areas in the National Capital Region are also taking to the streets to protest. The traders say that the government should formulate a solid policy to deal with pollution instead of shutting down their businesses.
