MP: Guna DM, SP Removed After Outrage Over Police
Following the outrage over police brutality on a Dalit farmer family in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan Government on Wednesday late night removed Gwalior Range Inspector General Rajababu Singh, Guna District Magistrate S Vishwanathan and Superintendent of Police Tarun Nayak with immediate effect.

After this, DM S. Vishwanathan said that the farmer was asked to empty the land, but he drank the insecticide which could have killed him. When he refused to go to the hospital, the police had to use force.

Apart from Madhya Pradesh Congress, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP by tweeting the video of the incident and said that his party’s fight was against such thinking and injustice.

Targeting the BJP, BSP supremo Mayawati tweeted that “It is very cruel and shameful that in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna, police and administration in the name of an anti-encroachment drive with JCB machine destroyed the crop of a Dalit couple which they have grown by taking a loan and also to make them so helpless that they tried to commit suicide. The nationwide condemnation of this incident is natural. The government should take strict action.”

Former CM Kamal Nath hitting out at the State Government asked “Will the Shivraj government show the same alacrity over the thousands of acres of land grabbed by so-called people’s servants and prominent people? Such incidents can never be tolerated. The culprits should be punished strictly or else the Congress won’t keep silent.”

The incident of brutality with a Dalit couple came on Tuesday when the anti-encroachment squad arrived on the land of Guna Municipality College under the leadership of SDM and started running JCB on the crops sown by Dalit farmer Rajkumar Ahirwar. At the same time, while opposing this action, the farmer couple drank pesticide, which caused a stir when the video went viral. Guna is the same parliamentary constituency from where Jyotiraditya Scindia had been an MP on Congress ticket and he had to face defeat from here in 2019.

This is not the first time that this has been done with the farmers in the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh, before that in Mandsaur also, the police had opened fire on the farmers, in which many farmers were also killed.
