Nationwide Celebrations On Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. People can be seen taking ritual dips on river banks, worshipping the Sun God and giving away alms.

The scenes of people taking ritual baths at Varanasi’s Ganga Ghat are being replicated in most states and cities of the country on the occasion of Makar Sankranti today.

People have gathered at the banks of holy rivers since morning and it is evident from photographs that their faith remains unwavering despite the prevalence of severe cold. People coming in for ritual baths say that baths taken today hold a lot of significance and that all auspicious activities will begin again from today.

This festival, which marks the departure of winters, is also considered to be the celebration of new energy and zeal among people. 

Kite-flying has its own importance on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and people can be seen flying kites since morning. Excitement over the onset of the New Year can be witnessed in various states of the country.
