North India Reels Under Intense Cold Wave
North India is reeling under intense cold wave conditions at present. Cold has severely intensified in the plains of northern India due to the continuing snowfall in the hilly regions of the country.

Entire Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) was enveloped in a thick layer of fog on Wednesday morning and the visibility was less than 50 metres.

People are facing many difficulties due to the thick fog and severe cold, with school-going children and the elderly facing the brunt of the increase in cold. The minimum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday morning was 7 degree Celsius.

The level of pollution in Delhi-NCR has severely worsened with the increase in cold. On Wednesday, the Air Quality Index in Delhi-NCR was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category; it was beyond 350.

The impact of fog was greater in Delhi’s Ring Road, Barapullah Flyover, and areas near the Yamuna river.

The fog has also affected trains and flights. While 22 trains were running late due to the thick fog, several trains were cancelled. While five flights have been diverted from Delhi airport due to fog, more than 30 flights have been delayed.

Along with Delhi-NCR, thick fog also prevailed in Punjab, northern Rajasthan, Haryana, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar on Wednesday. According to the Met Office, foggy conditions in Delhi-NCR will continue for one more week.

Meanwhile, continuous snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir is making tourists elated and their numbers have seen a lot of increase.
