Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi government repeatedly claims that the law and order system in the state is in a better position than the previous governments, but recent crimes in the state have dented those claims. The spirits of criminals are so high in the state that politicians and journalists are being killed in broad daylight. On Monday, a private TV channel journalist Ratan Singh was shot dead in Ballia by assailants.

The family members of the 42-year-old TV journalist Ratan Singh have alleged it to be a case of enmity. The family members claimed that the brother of a principal representative had taken Ratan to his house where he was shot. To pacify the angry locals, Ballia SP Devendra Nath has suspended Fashana police station in-charge Shashi Mauli Pandey, while three accused Arvind Singh, Dinesh Singh and Sunil Kumar Singh have been arrested.

It is being said that Ratan Singh had a land dispute with his neighbour. After another fight on Monday evening, he was shot. Accused Dinesh Singh is said to be his distant relative.

Apart from Ballia, BDC member Surendra Yadav was shot dead in the Nizamabad area of Azamgarh district of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Azamgarh DIG Subhash Chand Dubey said that there was a fight between the two sides first, after which the firing took place.

According to the DIG, the reason for the murder is the election of Gram Pradhan. A person from Surendra Yadav’s village, Durgesh Tiwari was preparing to contest for ‘Pradhani’ (as it is locally known), after which the controversy grew. Surendra Yadav’s family alleges that his family had also received threats before the murder.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary and in-charge of UP, took a shot at the law and order situation under the Yogi govt via a tweet.
