Over 120 Dead In UP, Bihar: Red Alert In 10 districts, Orange Alert in 14

Over 120 people have died till now as the retreating monsoon rains flooded Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, prompting the weather department to issue an orange alert in 14 districts of Bihar and a red alert in UP’s 10 districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in the next 24 hours. The death toll has reached 29 in Bihar and 90 in UP. Schools and colleges were closed on Tuesday in Patna and in ten districts of UP. Over 20 trains were cancelled as the railway tracks were submerged.


The Bihar government has demanded two helicopters from the union home ministry for lifting and airdropping food packets and medicines in the flood-affected areas of Patnam along with two pumping machines to pump-out floodwater.

“We are working to fulfil the demand for drinking water in flood-affected areas. We are also trying to restore power supply in those areas. Also, we have asked for two high-power pumping machines from Coal India to pump out floodwater,” P Amrit, principal secretary, Disaster Management Department said.

Flood water has entered the residence of BJP agriculture minister Prem Kumar in Patna:

Rainwater gushed into the premises of the Nalanda Medical College Hospital and Gardanibagh hospital in Patna.
