Congress General Secy for UP(East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleges that she was manhandled by personnel of the UP Police in Lucknow after being stopped on her way to visit the residence of retired IPS officer SR Darapuri, who was arrested in connection with the recent anti-CAA protests

"They do not have the right to stop me. If they want to arrest me, they should do so," Priyanka told reporters.

"The UP police stopped me while I was going to meet Darapuriji's family. They grabbed me by the neck and manhandled me. They then surrounded me while I was going on a party worker's two-wheeler, after which I walked to reach there”, Priyanka was quoted by ANI as saying.

The Congress has condemned the alleged manhandling of Priyanka, asking if UP was being run like a ‘banana republic’ with no civil liberties.

On its part, the state police has denied the allegations of Priyanka’s manhandling as "false".
