Protests Across Cities Over Hyderabad Rape-Murder Of Doctor
Protests are taking place across the country, including in Delhi, against the gang-rape and murder of a woman veterinarian in Telangana’s capital Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal is going to sit on a fast-unto-death from Tuesday to register her protest in this matter. Maliwal had gone on a similar hunger strike seven years ago as well, demanding justice for Nirbhaya
Telangana chief minister KCR has still not met the victim’s family; but he has gone to Delhi to attend a wedding. Earlier, on Monday, both houses of Parliament condemned this incident and MPs from various parties demanded that the law be made more stringent in matters of rape by making amendments in IPC and CrPC. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in the Lok Sabha that after the 2012 Nirbhaya case, laws had been made stricter but crimes against women have still not reduced. He also said that the government is ready to make amendments in IPC and CrPC. On Monday, while various women’s organisations came together to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, a candle march was organised in Hyderabad to demonstrate against the incident.
