Russia Spooks India at UNSC
India has been taken off guard after Russia referred to the UN charter and resolutions of the United Nations while referring to the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan.

While India claimed moral victory after the closed door UN Security Council meet where both Pakistan and China argued that Kashmir was not an internal matter of New Delhi, Russia’s stand of evoking a third party came as a rude shock.

In a tweet, Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN posted that:

“We hope that existing divergences around #Kasmir (Kashmir) will be settled bilaterally by political and diplomatic means only on the basis of Simla Agreement of 1972 and Lahore declaration of 1999, in accordance with UN Charter, relevant UN resolutions and bilateral agreements between India and Pakistan”.

Speaking to reporters after the meet, however, Polyanskiy only referred to Kashmir as a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan.

It seems clear that India has not yet had the last word at the UNSC and will continue to find it difficult to entirely stave off international pressure
