SC Seeks Centre's response on curbing social media
Pointing out that technology has taken a “dangerous turn”, the Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to notify it within three weeks about the time-frame needed to draft guidelines to curb misuse of social media in India.

A bench comprising justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose expressed serious concern over some social media platforms not being able to trace the originator of a message or an online content and said the government must step in now.

Calling it a scientific issue, the bench said that neither the top court nor the high court is competent to decide this.”It is for the government to come up with appropriate guidelines to deal with these issues”

“We can’t get away by saying that we don’t have a technology to track originators of online crime, if there is a technology to do it, then there is a technology to stop it,” the court said.
