Shaheen Bagh Protest Enters 40th Day
Protests and strikes against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) are underway in various parts of the country.
In Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, ongoing protest by women completed 40 days on Thursday. On Wednesday, women protesters said that their strike will not end.
On Wednesday night, Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhim Army chief, reached Shaheen Bagh, where he extended his support to the women protesters and also said that in the next 10 days, there will be 5,000 Shaheen Baghs in the country. Protests by women against the CAA, NRC and NPR are underway in Lucknow, Aligarh, Bhopal, Darjeeling, Madurai and several other cities of the country on the lines of Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. Women are protesting at the Ghanta Ghar in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) capital Lucknow, where they organised a ‘havan’ on Wednesday. In UP’s Aligarh too, protests are being held against the CAA, NRC and NPR. Fine Arts students of the Aligarh Muslim University protested by painting graffiti on walls on Wednesday. Apart from this, people in large numbers took part in protests against CAA, NRC and NPR at Aligarh’s Shah Jamal Eidgah. Meanwhile, continuous protests are underway in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal as well. Digvijay Singh, Congress leader and former Chief Minister (CM) of the state participated in protests against the CAA at Bhopal’s Iqbal Maidan on Wednesday. Protests against the CAA, NRC and NPR are being organised in West Bengal too. CM Mamata Banerjee took out a rally in Darjeeling on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Party chief and Member of Parliament, organised a large rally against the CAA, NRC and NPR in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai on Wednesday.
