Threat Of More Rain Looms Over Patna

Severe water-logging continues to plague the city of Patna, the capital of Bihar state. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office has again issued an alert for rain lasting two days. Heavy rainfall is forecast once more in Bihar’s capital Patna. The Met Office has issued an orange alert for relentless rains on October 3 and 4.

As a precautionary measure, the state government has closed schools and colleges on October 4.


Water-logging is still causing many problems for the residents of Patna’s Rajendra Nagar and Kankarbagh areas. For people stuck inside their homes for the last six days, it is very difficult to arrange for daily needs commodities like milk and water. The rains are expected to cause more problems for local residents. There is also an apprehension of an epidemic spreading in urban areas once the water recedes.

The number of people who have died due to floods in the state till now has risen to 73. 

Meanwhile, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has proved so inept in dealing with the flood situation in Patna that now leaders of his alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have also begun criticising him openly. After Union minister Giriraj Singh, Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal has also blamed Nitish Kumar for an inadequate response to the flood situation in Bihar.
