Uddhav Thackeray Meets PM Modi, Says Nobody Need Fear The CAA
On his maiden visit to Delhi after becoming Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, said that there is no need to be afraid of the CAA and this law is not meant to evict anyone from the country.
This statement by Thackeray could lead to heightened tensions in the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress alliance in Maharashtra.
On Friday, Thackeray met several prominent leaders, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. Thackeray held a press conference after meeting PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, in which he said that discussions were held with the PM on the CAA, NRC and NPR. He also said that the government has stated in Parliament that it is not going to bring in the NRC and that as far as Assam is concerned, everyone knows what is going on there. Thackeray also said that he has assured all citizens of the state that he will not let anyone’s rights be snatched away. Meanwhile, the NCP and Congress have been openly opposing the CAA, NRC and NPR. The Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP are running the government together in Maharashtra at present.
