'Wrong Turn': UP-Bound Shramik Special Train Reaches Odisha
The livelihoods of lakhs of people have been snatched away due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic across India.
Evidently, since they do not have any work, it has been difficult for people from the poor sections of society to make arrangements to satiate their hunger.
In light of this, on getting no help from the government, a large number of migrant workers have started walking towards their homes. To help them out, ‘Shramik Special’ trains have been started across the country. The purpose of these trains is to take migrant workers stranded in various parts of the country to their homes. But the Indian Railways’ ‘Shramik Special’ trains appear to be losing their way en route. A ‘Shramik Special’ train, which started out from Maharashtra for Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, which is 1,658 kms away, covered a distance of 1,584 kms and reached Odisha’s Rourkela station. But its destination is still 738 kms away. Unaware of such a huge change of route, passengers of the train appeared anxious and frustrated with the Railway. Nobody knows when this train - which started from Mumbai on May 21 and arrived in Odisha two days later - will reach Gorakhpur. Hassled passengers said that perhaps the driver has forgotten the route to the destination. Meanwhile, the Railways informed through a tweet, “The ‘Shramik Special’ train, which started out from Vasai Road, Maharashtra towards Gorakhpur on May 21, 2020, was supposed to operate on the Kalyan-Bhusawal-Itarsi-Jabalpur-Manikpur route, but due to congestion from heavy traffic, it will go to Gorakhpur via Bilaspur, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Asansol.” Watch the video story here:
