Kiwis fully dominated the first day of the second and final test match against India being played at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval from Saturday.

New Zealand won the toss and captain Kane Williamson invited India to bat first. Facing New Zealand’s bowling, Indian batsmen could not stay on the crease for long and the entire team was bundled out for 242 runs in the first innings.


Five Indian players, including captain Virat Kohli, could not even touch the figure of 10 runs in the first innings. At the end of play on Day 1, New Zealand had scored 63 runs without losing any wicket.

Batting first, Team India had a poor start, with its first wicket falling at the score of 30 runs, when opening batsman Mayank Agarwal was out after making seven runs. After this, Prithvi Shaw was out at the score of 80 runs after making 54 runs.

A little later, India’s third wicket fell at the score of 85 runs and captain Virat Kohli was dismissed for just three runs. Later, Ajinkya Rahane with 7 runs, Rishabh Pant with 12 runs and Ravindra Jadeja with 9 runs were sent back to the pavilion.

However, amid this, Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari steadied Team India and took the score forward. While Pujara made 54 runs, Vihari scored 55 runs. Later, India’s first innings ended at the score of 242 runs. Playing for New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson took five wickets and Tim Southee and Trent Boult took two wickets each. 

Chasing the target of 242 runs set by India, New Zealand got off to a good start in the first innings. New Zealand had made 63 runs without losing any wicket by the end of play on the first day. The Kiwis are trailing India by 179 runs based on the score in the first innings.

Opening batsmen Tom Latham with 27 runs and Tom Blundell with 29 runs are present at the crease.
