The coronavirus has brought the sports world to a halt and the football world is no different. The pandemic has impacted every major professional soccer league around the world, forcing the postponement of hundreds of matches.

The Belarusian Premier League is still ongoing, though the league isn’t part of the World Association of Professional Football Leagues, otherwise known as the World Leagues Forum and Nicaragua hasn’t stopped playing football as well.The German Bundesliga season may resume this month, becoming the first major league in Europe to do so. All matches will be played behind closed doors.While in the UK, a number of Premier League club doctors have raised a range of concerns with league bosses over plans to resume the season.

As precautionary measures, players will be tested for the virus twice a week and would be screened for symptoms every day. The players will be wearing protective gear and will not be allowed to take showers on the premises.

Spain has announced a four-phase plan to lift the country’s stringent lockdown and, during ‘phase zero’ from 4–11 May, professional sports leagues can go back to training.

Spain’s La Liga is expected to resume from June. A statement from the organizing body said clubs would follow the league’s protocol for returning to training. Barcelona leads Real Madrid by two points at the top of La Liga, with 11 rounds of matches to play.Italy has been one of the countries worst affected by the coronavirus, with a number of players infected. But there looms a possibility that Serie A fixtures could resume between 27 May and 2 June.

Serie A was suspended on 9 March, with 12 full rounds and four outstanding fixtures still to play. Juventus are top, a point ahead of Lazio.But it’s likely we won’t be seeing football leagues resume widespread until the outbreak is contained and the conditions become safe in the respective countries.
