Ishant Sharma's 2014 Racist Instagram Post Against Darren Sammy Sparks Outrage

During the ongoing debate on racism, Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma has got involved in a controversy. Ishant Sharma’s Instagram post has gone viral after the video statement of Darren Sammy, in which he is using the word ‘Kalu’ for Sammy. The incident took place in 2014 when Sammy and Ishant were part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.

Recently, Darren Sammy revealed in a video on Instagram on how he has faced racism.

Sammy said, 'I have played all over the world and I have found love with a lot of people. Wherever I have played, I have found love in the dressing room. So when I was listening to American comedian Hassan Minhaj in which he explains how black people are perceived in their society. '

'This does not apply to everyone but when I came to know the meaning of one word, I got very angry and it was humiliating. I remember when I was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, I was called by the exact same word that is used to humiliate black people. '

Sammy said that when ‘I was called by the word, I did not know its meaning but my team members used to laugh. Then I used to think that some laughable thing is being said. But now I am going to tell them what those people really are.’
