West Indies beat England by four wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, on Day 5 of the first Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Sunday.

Earlier, England resumed their second innings on 284/8 and was bundled out for 313. Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel finished with figures of 5-75, his sixth five-wicket haul in Tests.


Chasing 200 for victory, the Windies were 27/3 at one stage before Roston Chase (37 off 88b; 1x4) and Blackwood added a 73-run stand for the fifth wicket and laid the foundation of the victory. Blackwood made 95 as West Indies reached 200-6 in the final session.

For his 9 wickets in the test, West Indian fast bowler Shannon Gabriel was adjudged as Player of the match.
